Larry was a former member of the Breakfast Optimist Club of Appleton, United Commercial Travelers (UCT), William Verhagen American Legion Post #60 of Kimberly, Johnston-Blessman Amercian Legion Post #38 of Appleton and the Reserve Officers Association.

Following his active Air Force career he served as the purchasing agent at Miller Electric Manufacturing Company. Air Force and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and served as a pilot. He married Rosemary Oestereich on in Newark, New Jersey. Larry graduated from Kimberly High School. He was born Augin Kimberly, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (DeLeeuw) Thein. Lawrence Thein, of Appleton, age 90 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, Jwith his family at his side.
